So I'm surprised how comfortable it is being perpetually underground in Core Keeper. Part of it is the charming art and animation, along with the dynamic lighting effects. Core Keeper is a clever, challenging, and immensely enjoyable sandbox mining game that's a blast to play. You can completely change how you play for a new experience, there are a lot of bosses and areas to explore, and the joy of finding a new item or new area is never lost.
And while bosses amp up the challenge, the crafting-focused sandbox design is suitable for people who are less interested in hardcore fighting and more interested in base-building. I’m only ten or so hours in, but I’ve watched Twitch streams where players have built extensive bases and crafted advanced items I have yet to even see in my playthrough.
There are also 24 new armor pieces and 20+ decorative objects to enhance your base. The addition of new plants, food types, and fishes expands resource gathering and crafting Core Keeper Gameplay options.
You can't really make these items until you get to the mid-game, either, so take advantage of the Core's Waypoint in the early game and build your base near it!
